Black Heritage
So, I was tooling around the web and I notice something. As a black man in America, I dont have any heritage, or traditions. I have noticed people with kiss me 'Im irish' Tshirts. Tshirts that say, "You wish you was Italian". I have met many men that wear kilts because its their family history.
I could not find one black person born here that could tell me a family tradition. Sure they can say "well, we get together and do this every year". But this generation I was talking to started that. They didnt have one thing that thier family started from birth. Most of us can't even find our original ancesters, because we dont know what to look for. We have no idea what we decended from or if there is anyone left. I know as far back as one of my GRANDMOTHERs was shot in the eye escaping her master. She was found by Blackfoot Indians and married one of them. BUT... can I find one of these guys to talk to? no. Are there any records as to what his name was and where they went? No. At that time you had to be a certain class or in a certain place to have records kept.
Whats my point you ask?Simple. People ask me many times why are black people so angry.We dont have a past to be proud of. Wait, wait, wait. I know you will point out people like George Washington Carver, Meger Evers, Martin Luther, and all those great great people. BUT. think about this. When you go to the renaisance festival. What are they wearing? Either street cloths or something of European design. And yes we always see pictures of African Bushmen BUT you cant go to the faire like that.
WHY NOT? I see women in thongs with strings hanging out thier ass all day. So why cant I put on a loincloth and body paints and say Im Umbutu?
Anyway. The next time you see an angry black person dont trip. He's just venting because someone stole his heritage.
